Shimla is situated on a cresent shaped hill at an altitude of 2250 meters above sea level. This location provides Shimla with its colder climatic conditions. This hill station is one of the most preferred destinations for the numerous masses living in the hot Gangetic planes of northern India at any given time.

Shimla can be visited in both summer and winter because it has a ideal climate for a hill station. However, the best time to visit is between April to mid-July and mid-September to the end of October, which is the peak season. It is prudent to avoid the monsoon months, from mid-July to mid-September, when the rains make the roads slippery.

There are several nice hotels in Shimla in all budget ranges. At the time of writing this answer, we have over 401 reviews os shimla hotels. Hotel Sangeet (Rs. 1000 per night) is one of the most preferred hotel in Shimla and is highly recommended.

If you are an adventure buff and fancy winter sports, heavy snowfall create a ample opportunities of Skiing and ice-skating or even playing with snow balls, Shimla is the destination for you.
