Hyderabad Hyderabad is the capital city of Andhrapradesh, a state in India. Situated on the banks of Musi River in the Deccan plateau, Hyderabad is also known as the “City of Nizams’, “city of pearls”, ‘Biryani City”. Founded by Muhammad quli Qutub Shah, in 1591, the city was named after Queen Hyder mahal, wife of King Qutub Shah. Hyderabadi culture is distinctly different from the rest of India. It is a blend of Persian and Telugu culture with a slight difference even in the spoken language.

Hyderabad Tourist Attractions

Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Golconda fort, Birla Mandir etc. are some popular tourist attractions. For the foodies, Hyderabadi cuisine is exclusive. Hyderabi Biryani and the haleel (available during Ramzan) is world famous.


Charminar is the unofficial icon of Hyderabad, Charminar literally means four minarets. This historical structure was built by Quli Qutb Shah as a mark of thanks giving to Allah for cutting short a plague epidemic before it could do too much damage. This is the place where the ruler had prayed. The tall towers rise upto a height of 48.7m from the ground. There is also a mosque with 45 prayer spaces. As is obvious, one can get a panoramic view of Hyderabad city from the top of the minarets. A unique feature is just at the bottom of one of the Minar, there is a Hindu temple. Charminar is a must see tourist attraction for a visitor to Hyderabad.

Mecca Masjid

One of the oldest and biggest mosque in the city, Mecca Masjid is situated to the South-West of Charminar. Started in 1617 by Quili Qutub Shah and completed by emperor Aurangzeb in 1694, the Mecca Masjid is a huge structure in granite which can accommodate 10,000 worshippers at a time.

Falaknuma Palace

Falaknuma palace is a stunning piece of architecture, opulent interiors with works of florantine sculptures and impressive furniture. The 100-seator Dinning table is awe inspiring. Built in 1872 by Nawab VigarAlmura, the Falaknuma Palace stands out in its grandeur as compared to other palaces of the Nizam. The palace houses a unique collection of Jade and Chandelliers. It also has a large collection of rare treasures including paintings, statues, furnitures manuscripts and books

Chowmahalla Palace

Situated near the charminar, the chowmahalla palace was the official residence and banquet hall of the royal visitors. State guests were received here. This was also the administrative wing. The palace is unique for its style and elegance. This palace is held in high esteem by the people of Hyderabad.
