Kanyakumari travel guide
Kanyakumari or Cape Camorin, as it was known in the West, lies on the Southern most tip of the Indian mainland. A town in Tamilnadu, Kanya Kumari takes its name after the virgin Goddess of the place, Kanyakumari Amman. Legends have it that the Goddess Parvati in the form of a virgin did penance at this place so that she could be reunited with Lord Shiva. This place, therefore, has a deep religious significance for the Hindus.
Kanyakumari offers a whole range of tourist attractions like religious places, historical edifices, natural beaches, forests, mountain valleys, rubber and clove plantations. There is also an amusement park for the children. Located at the confluence of three seas, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, a unique feature of the sea shore is the multicolored sand on the beaches. Sunrises and sunsets are marvelous images too good for words! On full moon nights one can see the sunset and moonrise simultaneously.
Being close to the sea, Kanyakumari enjoys a pleasant climate through out the year. However, the best time to visit this place is between October to March.
