Rose Garden

The Government Rose Garden (formerly known as the Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, Centerary Rose Park and Nootrandu Roja Poonga) is the largest rose garden in India. Rose gardenís is one of the major tourist attractions of this hill station. The vast number of roses and the sheer variety of them makes it a touristís favourite place. Situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill, this garden has one of the largest collections of roses in the country, with more than 20,000 varieties of roses of 2,800 cultivators. Itís a long walk through the garden, but is worth it.

St. Stephen's Church

Dating back to the 18th century, St. Stephen's Church, located on the Mysore road, near the Collectorate, is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris. The foundation for the church was laid by Rt. Hon'ble Stephen Rumbold Lushington, the then Governor of Madras, on April 23, 1829, to coincide with the birthday of King George IV.

Ooty Golf Course

Formed in March 1891 by Colonel Fane Sewell, the then Secretary of the Blue Mountains Tennis and Cricket Club. It is owned by the Gymkhana Club in Ooty. The course extends over 193.56 acres and comprises 18 holes. The golf course contains many varieties of trees like oak, rhododendron, fir and aromatic eucalyptus which add to the scenic atmosphere. Accommodation for golf lovers is provided by the golf club.

Stone House

Built by John Sullivan, it is the first European house in the blue hills of Ootacamund. It was called as Kal Bangala by the tribal people (Kal means stone in Tamil) Its interiors are not open to public today. Today, it is the official residence for the principal of the Government Arts College, Ooty.

Emerald Lake

Located in a region called the silent valley, near Emerald village in the Nilgiris, the Emerald lake important tourist destination and picnic spot. The sunrise and sunsets viewed from this lake are jaw-dropping beautiful. The lake is renowned for its different varieties of fishes, duck and birds. Visitors can buy tea products from the nearby tea plantations surrounding the lake.

Avalanche Lake

The Avalanche Lake is located 28 kilometres from Ooty.The Avalanche Valley, formed as a result of a landslide in 1823, is a treasure bright magnolias, shola trees, beautiful orchids, rhododendrons, and a trout stream. One of a kind lake, it is a popular tourist attraction because of its magnificent beauty. Both the Avalanche Lake and Emerald Lake showcase nature at its most spectacular.
