Rameshwaram is a temple town located on the Pamban Island and is connected to the mainland India by the Pamban channel. Rameshwaram Island, (also known as Pamban Island) is conch shaped and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. One of the four Dhams, Rameshwaram is considered as one of the holiest places. Rameshwaram is a major tourist attraction for the pilgrims both Shaivites and Vaishnavites. Only 50 kms from the Manar Island from Sri lanka, according to legends this is the place from where Sri Ram built the Ramsetu (Adam’s bridge) across the sea to Sri Lanka.
